After being picked up in the 9th round of the 2024 MLB Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals saw something special in McGee and upped the ante by agreeing on an above-slot signing of $275,000 – quite an impressive move!

Post-signing, McGee made his pro debut in 2024. While the initial outcomes weren't what he'd hoped for, the Arizona native knew it was all part of the learning curve in adapting to affiliate baseball life. New teammates, coaches, data at his fingertips, six-game road trips, and leaving beloved college buddies behind – a lot to get used to!

The offseason proved instrumental for McGee. He focused on refining his swing and leveraging data to support his batting quest. Adding weight – from 195 to 212 lbs – was another noteworthy feat to unlock his power potential.

After slugging just one home run in 20 games as a rookie, McGee's offseason grit came to fruition in the opening week of the 2025 season. He smacked two homers already, both in the inaugural week of play for Low-A Palm Beach.

"I felt prepared, mentally and physically, after spring training," McGee shared with Redbird Rants. "My swings are in a much better place compared to last year, and finding the right timing and mindset at the plate has been a game-changer."

McGee's hot streak earned him the Florida State League Player of the Week title during the first week of minor league games. Among his highlights: a walk-off two-run homer in the 9th inning to clinch a four-run comeback against Fort Myers.

"Winning the Player of the Week award was cool, but I know it's just the beginning," McGee humbly noted. "Long season ahead, and you can't get complacent. Now, I'm just trying to maintain my groove and stay focused on my strengths as a hitter."

While production has dipped slightly after his scorching start, McGee still boasts an impressive .878 OPS over 14 games. His plate discipline is commendable too, with 11 walks to his name in that span. If he keeps this up until mid-season, a well-deserved promotion to High-A Peoria could be on the horizon!

In brief, Cade McGee's 2025 season is off to a flying start, and with his solid performance and plate discipline, there's a good chance of him earning a promotion to High-A Peoria by mid-season – a testament to his hard work and dedication!

  1. McGee's impressive start in the 2025 season has extended beyond baseball, garnering interest in his performance from sports analysts, especially those specializing in American-football and NFL.
