Car Bidding Recap: Classic Car Auctions Held in June

Crushing It at Wheeler Dealer Live's Classic Car Auctions

The Iconic Auctioneers' Classic Car Auction at Wheeler Dealer Live was a smashing success, raising a tidy sum for charity after the Bicester Motion fire. The event showcased a delectable mix of cars and automobilia, drawing bids from enthusiasts that sent many vehicles home for hefty prices.

Japanese cars sparked heated bidding wars. Among the top-earning vehicles was a slick 1980 Datsun 280ZX Golden Bronza, fitted with a manual transmission and selling for a cool £11,250. A “final-year- edition” 2009 Honda S2000 and an elusive 1998 Mitsubishi GTO MR lightweight rounded out the list of coveted Japanese rides, fetching £11,475 and £15,469, respectively.

A 1994 Toyota Celica GT4 WRC Edition and a couple of Subaru Imprezas also caught the eye, with the former selling for £7,313, and the latter - an honest, unaltered 1998 Turbo 2000 and a 2001 P1 - captivating the crowd and bringing £3,938 and £23,063, respectively.

Drop-tops reigned supreme in the sunshine. Populating the scenic auction block were a 1958 Morgan Plus 4 4-Seater, a peculiar 1973 Renault 4 Plein Air Conversion, a 2002 Aston Martin DB7 V12 Volante, a stunning 1975 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce, a 1971 Triumph TR6 CP, a 1992 Lotus Elan SE, and even a 1979 Mercedes R107 350SL. Each set a new home, each to the delight of its new owner.

The Jaguar line-up was strong, as well. A rarely seen 1991 Jaguar XJ-S Coupe sold for £13,781, followed by a pair of high-powered saloons, a 1997 X300 XJR and a 2004 S-Type R, for a mere £2,081 and £2,250, respectively. Luxury seekers were also drawn to a 1967 Daimler 205 V8, as well as a truly majestic 2006 Rolls-Royce Phantom VII with RREC Concours-winning history, going for an impressive £76,500.

Some oddities were also up for grabs, such as a 1971 Bond Bug 700ES, which fetched £7,313, and a 2000 VW Lupo with graffiti dubbed the "Sidemen Car" that sold for a stupefying £5,625.

Charity lots were also part of the auction, raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity. In total, £6,500 was raised from these special lots and Catalogue sales.

**Insight:** The search results suggest that some rare Japanese performance cars, such as an Autozam AZ-1 Special Edition and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI RS, were part of the auction. These models could have potentially fetched higher prices than what was reported in the article, as their estimated prices are significantly higher. Additional information from the auction results would be necessary to confirm this.

Attendees at the Wheeler Dealer Live's Classic Car Auctions showed a particular interest in sports cars, particularly Japanese models, as seen in the competitive bidding for vehicles such as the 1980 Datsun 280ZX and the 2009 Honda S2000. The diverse array of cars on display offered a glimpse into the lifestyle preferences of car enthusiasts who value speed and performance.
