Captured: One Remaining Among 9 Previously Escapees from New Orleans Jail Still at Large
Updated Article:
Antoine Massey, a notorious escape artist with a lengthy record, has finally been caught. Massey, snatched up just miles from the very jail he busted out of six weeks ago, was nabbed at a rental pad in Hollygrove, New Orleans, according to Deputy US Marshal Brian Fair.
This time around, it was a peaceful arrest for this previously elusive fugitive. Surrendering without a fight, Massey was taken into custody after being surrounded by law enforcement officers.
According to reports, the tip that led to the arrest came via Crime Stoppers. Massey's charges at the time of his escape included domestic abuse battery involving strangulation, motor vehicle theft, and a parole violation. Further charges may be added following his recapture[1][2][3].
Alas, the hunt continues for Derrick Groves, the only remaining escapee from the Orleans Justice Center mass jailbreak. With nine of the ten inmates now back behind bars, Groves remains the lone fugitive on the loose.
Groves, a convicted murderer, was part of a duo who opened fire with AK-47-style assault rifles at a Mardi Gras family gathering in 2018, causing widespread panic and two tragic deaths. He also pleaded guilty to battery of a corrections officer. New Orleans Police Department Chief Anne Kirkpatrick has made it clear that they will not rest until they've brought Groves to justice.
"We are going to capture you," she said at a news conference, addressing Groves directly. "You will be taken into custody, but you still have the option to peacefully turn yourself in, and we will make an appeal to you to do so." Even if it takes another six days or six weeks, they'll keep searching until Groves is back in custody[1].
A reward of $50,000 is on the line for anyone providing information leading to Groves' whereabouts. So, if you've got any leads, step up and offer them to the authorities anonymously. Together, we won't stop until the last fugitive is back behind bars.
