Capital hosts inaugural international competition
The sports world is abuzz with anticipation as the Astana 2025 World Boccia Challenger prepares to take centre stage in August. This international tournament, scheduled from the 20th to the 28th of August, 2025, will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
So far, 14 countries have confirmed their participation in this momentous event, with India viewing it as a significant opportunity for their athletes. Among the notable athletes participating is Raghav, an athlete adopted by Act Humane.
The tournament is a qualifying event for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, under the auspices of the International Boccia Federation (BISFed). It is being organized by the Kazakhstan Boccia Federation, with the support of several key organizations, including the Astana Akimat, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, AO "Samruk-Kazyna", Sport Qory Fund for the Development of Tourism and Sports Industry, Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), and other partners.
The tournament will take place at a large sports complex in Astana, fully adapted for athletes with disabilities. This state-of-the-art facility will host athletes competing in individual, doubles, and team events. The ten strongest players from Kazakhstan, including Itiana Shingis khanova and Almat Erat, will also be in the mix.
Nurguul Ulzhekova, general secretary of the Kazakhstan Boccia Federation, expressed her excitement about the event, stating that hosting the tournament in Astana strengthens Kazakhstan's position as an active participant in the Paralympic movement and underscores the country's commitment to creating equal opportunities for all. She also emphasized that the tournament will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, international cooperation, and the promotion of inclusive sports in the region.
As of now, 13 countries and 60 athletes from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East have confirmed their participation. The Astana 2025 World Boccia Challenger is not just a sporting event, but also a significant platform for international cooperation and the promotion of inclusive sports.
