Election Alert: Special Voters on the Ballot for Omsk City Council by-elections
The city of Omsk is gearing up for by-elections in two single-seat districts, officially confirmed by city authorities.
According to the official website of the preliminary voting for the party "United Russia," primaries will be held in Omsk to determine candidates for the by-elections in the city council.
As a result, the plans for the additional election of deputies in the Omsk City Council for the 11th and 23rd single-member districts have been officially confirmed.
A quick recap: Paul Korolev served as the representative for the 11th district, and Dmitriy Markev for the 23rd district. Both resigned due to a shift in their professional commitments.
In the primaries for "United Russia," former military operation participants can be found among the candidates. For example, Alexander Salnikov, a 38-year-old native of Omsk's Gorkovsky district, is running for the 23rd district.
According to his official biography on the preliminary voting website, Salnikov was mobilized in 2022 for the Special Military Operation. He received a severe injury in 2023 as a result, leading to his demobilization in 2024. He has been awarded the Medals "For Courage" and "Zhukov."
Dmitriy Sharushinskiy, a 48-year-old former volunteer for the Special Military Operation, is running for the 11th district. He served as the commander of the 3rd company of the 14th detachment of the BARS[1]. He, too, suffered a severe injury in 2023 and was demobilized. He has been honored with the Medal "For Bravery" II degree and the Order of Courage.
It's worth noting that, as of publication, three candidates have registered for each district in the "United Russia" primaries.
The voting will take place from May 19 to May 25, 2025. The results will officially determine the "United Russia" candidates for the by-elections in the Omsk City Council.
Before the primaries, Secretary of the General Council of "United Russia" Vladimir Yakovlev announced that approximately 21,000 people had registered as candidates, with 413 of them being participants of the Special Military Operation.
