Candidates' Election Day Activities Revealed

Here Comes the Big Day: Voting in Vienna's Elections

It's finally Sunday, the day Vienna chooses its new city council, regional parliament, and district boards. Buckle up, everyone, as we're in for a long day! While election helpers manage the voting process, top candidates are media-ready and on the move. After the polls close at 17:00, Vienna City Hall will be the heart of the action.

Later, the parties will collect at their respective gatherings. The SPÖ has decided to skip the election party this time, with many election helpers on duty being a key reason. The ÖVP will meet in Lichtenfelsgasse, while the Greens have chosen the Ottakringer Brewery. The NEOS will set up their party in the Prater, and the FPO has chosen a location near the city hall.

The Schedule in a Nutshell

  • Elections: Vienna City Council and District Councils on April 27, 2025.
  • City Council: Comprising 100 seats, making decisions for the city and serving as the state parliament (Landtag).
  • District Councils: Consisting of 23 entities, responsible for district-level needs.
  • Voting Stations: Open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Participating Parties: SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ, Greens, NEOS, KPÖ/Links, Team HC Strache.
  • Eligible Voters: Austrian citizens with primary residence in Vienna as of January 28, 2025, and aged 16 or older by April 27, 2025. Non-Austrian EU citizens with primary residence in Vienna are eligible to vote in District Council elections but not City Council elections.

All the leading candidates will cast their votes throughout the day, starting as early as 9:30 AM and ending at 2:00 PM. The first will be SPÖ chairman and Mayor Michael Ludwig, followed by FPO leader Dominik Nepp, KPO leader Barbara Urbanic, Green Party leader Judith Pühringer, ÖVP leader Karl Mahrer, NEOS' leading candidate Selma Arapovic, and finally, HC Strache party leader Heinz Christian Strache.

After voting, they'll all assemble at the media center of Vienna City Hall, with TV rounds scheduled to start from 3:00 PM. Given the first projection is expected around 6:30 PM, the party leaders might arrive after that. The polling stations for school visits will be based in educational institutions, from kindergarten to high school.

So, grab your flags, defensive posters, and campaign gear, because it's time to make yourselves heard, Vienna! Remember, your voice matters, and every vote counts!
