Cancer tragically claims the life of Andreas Catjar-Danielsson (Covenant)
In the world of electronic music, the loss of Andreas Catjar-Danielsson, a former member of the renowned Swedish band Covenant, has left a significant void. Andreas passed away on July 29, 2023, after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 51.
Andreas' career was marked by a blend of futurepop and experimental sounds, which he showcased in his work with Covenant from 2013. He contributed as a co-writer on tracks like “Slowdance” and “I Walk Slow,” and performed on several releases such as the EP “Last Dance,” the album “Leaving Babylon,” and the drone-laden cover “A Rider on a White Horse” on the 2016 album “The Blinding Dark.”
Before joining Covenant, Andreas was a member of the band Souls. His musical journey did not end with Covenant, as he also composed music for theaters and produced the next Abu Nein album. One of his last music works was a cover of the Bow Wow Wow track "The Man Mountain," which he recorded with Antonia Henn.
In tribute to him, Covenant released the “Andreas EP” in 2025, featuring experimental tracks including original songs Andreas co-wrote and covers such as Yazoo’s “Winter Kills” and Lee Hazlewood’s “A Rider on a White Horse.” All proceeds from this EP went to charity supporting his wife and children.
