Cancellation of Bail for Darshan in Renukaswamy Murder Case Upholded by Supreme Court
Breaking News: Supreme Court Cancels Bail for Darshan Thoogudeepa in Renukaswamy Murder Case
In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court of India has revoked the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, Pavithra Gowda, and several others involved in the Renukaswamy murder case. The court's decision comes after a two-judge bench, led by Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, set aside the Karnataka High Court's bail order.
Justice Mahadevan criticised the earlier bail grant, stating that it had the potential to interfere with the trial process. On the other hand, Justice Pardiwala underscored the message that no individual, including celebrities, is above the law. The court emphasised that the rule of law must be strictly maintained, and no one is above it.
Following the verdict, Pavithra Gowda was taken into custody, and the police are closely monitoring all accused, including Darshan, who has been observed travelling between Mysuru and Tamil Nadu. The judiciary is now proceeding to obtain arrest warrants to initiate the formal arrest process, unless the accused opt to surrender voluntarily.
This latest development marks a significant escalation in the legal proceedings against the accused in this high-profile murder case. The case involves Kannada actor Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 11 of Darshan's close associates.
Investigations revealed that Darshan allegedly paid a group of men to carry out the murder in Bengaluru. Renukaswamy, the victim, was a resident of Chitradurga and was accused of stalking and abusing Pavithra Gowda, a fellow actor, on social media. He allegedly used indecent language and posted offensive messages on her account.
According to sources, a close aide of Darshan, named Raghavendra, was arrested in connection with the case. Raghavendra reportedly brought Renukaswamy to a shed in Bengaluru's RR Nagar on the pretext that Darshan wanted to meet him. It is alleged that Renukaswamy was tortured and killed in this shed.
The Karnataka state government had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court regarding this case, and the Bengaluru police had filed a 3,991-page chargesheet in September, listing Pavitra Gowda as Accused No. 1 and Darshan as Accused No. 2.
