Canadians urged to cast their votes to counteract Trump's policies, according to Mark Carney.

Fresh Take:

In the homestretch of the election, Liberal leader Mark Carney invites Canadians – regardless of party loyalty – to cast their ballots for him, promising a united front against external challenges.

" I'm asking you to vote for me for positive reasons, putting aside past affiliations. The time has come to lead a united nation," Carney stated during a press conference in Victoria, British Columbia.

Leaving just six days till the federal elections, Carney reiterated the gravity of the crisis Canadians are facing and discussed imminent discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on the economic and security partnership between the two countries.

" With a clear mandate, Canada will stand stronger in discussions with the President," he argued during a 20-minute speech delivered atop a luxurious hotel.

Whilst Carney employed careful phrasing, avoiding mention of a majority government, he emphasized the importance of having a "strong government" or a "clear mandate" to stand up to Trump. Last Tuesday, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Melanie Joly, had no qualms in encouraging voters to opt for a majority Liberal government in Ottawa.

With the Liberal Party still leading in national voting intentions, there's a good chance Carney may head a majority government, according to polling firm projections.

British Columbia – the battleground province

Carney didn't shy away from courting British Columbia (BC) voters, the only province with voting intentions neck-and-neck between the Liberals and Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives.

" BC voters have the power to decide the next Prime Minister on Monday. I ask for your support to safeguard our shared values and tackle this crisis together," he shared during his first stop in Victoria.

He vowed to counter tariff threats from Trump, who is considering doubling duties on softwood lumber, a key industry for the province. In the background, the Liberal team eyes potential electoral gains in the province, aiming to take seats from both the Conservatives and New Democratic Party (NDP).

Strong support for Carney's Liberal Party is evident in Atlantic Canada (53%), followed closely by Ontario (48%) and Quebec (42%). The Conservatives dominate in Alberta (59%) as well as Manitoba and Saskatchewan (49%).

Canadians will head to the polls next Monday to elect the next government in Ottawa, as the trade war with the United States continues.

Gaining the EDGE (Enhanced, Dynamic, Governance for Everyone)

In his strategy, Economic strength, Delete tariff threats, Guard BC’s jobs, and End the housing crisis have been key points for Carney.

  1. Economic Strength: Carney promises a defender against external economic threats, such as tariffs from the U.S. Under his leadership, plans include creating jobs, especially in technology, skilled trades, and the lumber industry, cutting taxes for the middle class, and fostering an industry base rooted in BC’s strengths.
  2. Delete Tariff Threats: A top priority for Carney is standing strong against tariffs and protecting BC’s trade interests.
  3. Guard BC’s Jobs: Carney aims to protect BC's key sectors, including the lumber industry, by countering tariff threats.
  4. End the housing crisis: Increasing housing supply and ensuring affordability in BC is high on Carney's agenda.

By addressing local crises such as the drug epidemic and housing shortage, Carney hopes to win trust across diverse communities, including Indigenous groups and youth. Should his strategy prove effective, Carney may reshape BC's political landscape and secure the Liberals' position in the federal election.
