Canada Announces Olympic Orientation Camp Invites for Milan and Cortina 2026 Games

Canada has announced its Olympic orientation camp invites for the Milan and Cortina 2026 Games, inviting 92 players across the men's, women's, and para hockey teams. Among the notable invitees are several NHL stars, including Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evan Bouchard (all from the Edmonton Oilers), Josh Morrissey, Mark Scheifele, Sidney Crosby, and Cale Makar.

These players are NHL standouts with significant achievements. McDavid, for instance, has recently been named the captain of the Oilers and led the team to victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship.

The four Oilers — McDavid, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, and Bouchard — are competing for spots on the Olympic roster, with McDavid already being part of the championship-winning team. The camp includes 42 NHL players, along with players from women's hockey, such as PWHL Seattle forward Danielle Serdachny, and para hockey gold medalist Micah Kovacevich.

The elite talent pool invited to this camp is further highlighted by the presence of eight NHL No. 1 draft picks.

In the goalkeeping department, Ève Gascon, a Quebec goaltender, is one of the four women invited to the Canadian camp. Three goalkeepers, including Adin Hill, Jordan Binnington, and Samuel Montembeault, have received their passes to the Canadian camp. Ann-Renée Desbiens, Emerance Maschmeyer, and Kayle Osborne are other goaltenders invited, alongside Gascon.

The Canadian camp also includes several veterans, such as Tom Wilson, Carter Verhaeghe, Zach Hyman, John Tavares, and Robert Thomas. The preliminary roster includes Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Sam Reinhart, and Brayden Point.

Kati Tabin and Nicole Gosling, teammates of Marie-Philip Poulin, Erin Ambrose, and Laura Stacey, have also been invited to the Canadian camp. Evan Bouchard, Aaron Ekblad, Brandon Montour, Mackenzie Weegar, and Noah Dobson are among the new defensemen invited.

For the younger generation, Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini, Quinton Byfield, and Wyatt Johnston, who were not part of the Four Nations Tournament, will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Canadian camp.

The selections for the Canadian camp were made by the Canadian management team, led by St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. The next few months will be marked by rigorous evaluations and tough decisions about the composition of the Canadian teams for the Milan and Cortina Games.

Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada's vice-president of high performance, has commented on the upcoming evaluations, stating, "These are exciting times for our athletes and staff as we come together to start building a team spirit ahead of the Milan and Cortina Games." Samuel Montembeault is the only representative from Quebec among the invitees to the Canadian camp.

Former players Jennifer Gardiner and Kristin O'Neill will have the opportunity to prove themselves at the Canadian camp. The Canadian camp will provide a chance for athletes and staff to come together and start building a team spirit ahead of the Milan and Cortina Games.

The invitation to Canada's Olympic orientation camp for the Milan and Cortina 2026 Games spans across diverse hockey teams, including a significant number of players from the NHL. Among the invitees are four players from the Edmonton Oilers, such as Connor McDavid, who recently led the team to victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship.

The Canadian camp, aimed at preparing teams for the Milan and Cortina Games, includes several prominent NHL goalkeepers, like Adin Hill and Jordan Binnington, as well as up-and-coming talents like Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini, and Wyatt Johnston, who were not part of the Four Nations Tournament.
