Canadian Water Ninjas to Compete in RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships under the Cochrane Flag
The Cochrane Water Ninjas, a renowned lifesaving team in Canada, have been selected to represent their country at the prestigious Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships. This international competition, held every two years, brings together lifesaving teams from Commonwealth nations.
The team's coach, Dunse, expressed his excitement, stating, "It's absolutely incredible. I think it shows the skill and work effort that we as Water Ninjas put in." The team's camaraderie is a significant factor in their success, with Fisher adding, "I feel our team is very connected—everyone gets along."
The Cochrane Water Ninjas will be competing in a variety of events, including pool rescue events such as timed swimming and rescue simulations, manikin carries, and obstacle swims. Beach events will feature surf races, board rescues, beach sprints, and team relays. Rescue simulations will test the team's practical lifesaving skills in challenging scenarios.
The exact events for the 2022 edition, including the official schedule and the full list of competing nations, are not yet available. However, it is known that the competition will take place in Swansea, Wales, from July 8-13. For precise data about the championship, interested parties are advised to check the official RLSS websites or contact the event organisers directly.
Among the athletes representing Canada are 18-year-old Jack Dunse, 17-year-old Isaac Thibodeau (who will be competing in his third tour with the national team), 17-year-old Danica Fisher, and the Water Ninjas' Oliver Johnson and Caebri Smith. The team has launched a GoFundMe page to help cover costs for the trip.
Thibodeau expressed his pride in the team, stating, "It's a testament to our club's dedication, our coaching staff, and everything we've had over the years." For Dunse and Thibodeau, the competition is a testament to their hard work and the strength of the Cochrane team.
Two more swimmers from the Water Ninjas have been chosen as reserves, ensuring a strong Canadian presence at the championships. The team departs for Wales on July 6, ready to compete against the best lifesaving teams from around the Commonwealth.
According to the RLSS website, the competition's goal is to encourage participation in lifesaving sport, further develop lifesaving practices, and bring the lifesaving family together. The Water Ninjas are eager to uphold this tradition and showcase their skills on the international stage.
The Cochrane Water Ninjas are also looking forward to competing in sports beyond their usual lifesaving events, as their coach, Dunse, mentioned his interest in the news about the sports events that will be part of the RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Swansea, Wales. As the team prepares for the competition, they have launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help cover costs for the trip, showcasing their willingness to work hard and represent Canada with pride, as expressed by athletes like Thibodeau and Fisher.
