Canadian football team, Toronto Argonauts, re-sign former UFL champion Willie Drew, also add one more player to their roster.
Toronto Argonauts Set to Face Edmonton Elks, Bolstered by New Signings
The Toronto Argonauts (2-7) are gearing up for a crucial match against the Edmonton Elks (2-6) on August 15 at Commonwealth Stadium. This highly-anticipated game will begin at 9:00 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1050 in Toronto and 880 CHED in Edmonton.
The weather forecast for the game calls for a high of 20 degrees with clouds rolling in late in the night.
Two new additions to the Argonauts' roster are expected to make a significant impact in the upcoming game. American defensive back Willie Drew and Canadian fullback Wilt Gabriel were both officially signed by the Argonauts in August 2025.
Willie Drew, a native of Smithfield, Va., spent time on Toronto's practice roster last season and was a key contributor to the DC Defenders' UFL championship win earlier this year. In seven games with the Defenders, he recorded four total tackles, two pass knockdowns, and one interception. Drew also shone at the collegiate level, being named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year at Virginia State University in 2023.
Wilt Gabriel, a six-foot-three, 245-pound athlete from Montreal, completed his college career at Houston Christian in 2022. His college football journey included stops at Coastal Carolina, Independence Community College, and Virginia State.
Both players have yet to make their mark on the field for the Argonauts, but they are expected to bolster the defensive backfield (Drew) and the fullback position (Gabriel), respectively.
The Argonauts will be looking to bounce back from their recent loss to the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Elks are coming off a win against the Montreal Alouettes. This promises to be an exciting game, with both teams eager to claim victory.
