"Canadian Advisory Issued": Canada urges against travel to Indian states bordering Pakistan due to landmine risks
In a recent development, the Canadian government has issued travel advisories for various regions in India and Canada, advising caution and vigilance for both Canadian citizens and Indian nationals residing in Canada.
The Canadian government has cautioned against non-essential travel to the states of Assam and Manipur due to the risk of terrorism and unrest. This advisory, last updated on September 27, also highlights the ongoing security concerns and occasional unrest in the union territories of Ladakh.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India has taken up the matter with the Canadian authorities, requesting them to investigate these crimes. The MEA has stated that there has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-India activities in Canada.
Indian nationals and students in Canada are encouraged to exercise caution and remain vigilant. To facilitate better communication in case of any demand or emergency, they are advised to register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa, Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver, or the MADAD portal (madad.gov.in).
The Canadian government's travel advisory also emphasizes that the criminals responsible for the increasing crimes in Canada have not been brought to trial. Furthermore, it advises avoiding all travel to areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan in Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan due to the uncertain security circumstances and visibility of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The advisory does not include any new information about the omission of traveling to or within the Union Territory of Ladakh or Assam and Manipur. It also does not include any new information about the threat of terrorist attacks throughout India or the unpredictable security situation in Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
The advisory also states that the Khalistan vote performed by separatist groups is considered a 'farcical exercise' by India. The Canadian government's travel advisory also advises individuals to exercise a high degree of care in India due to the threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country.
In light of these developments, it is crucial for both Indian nationals and Canadians to stay informed and vigilant. Registration with the Indian missions in Canada can help facilitate better communication in case of any emergencies.
