Huntsville, Ontario, is set to host the 2025 Council of the Federation (COF) meeting, an important event that brings together leaders from across Canada to discuss key issues affecting the nation. The meeting, chaired by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, will take place at Deerhurst Resort from Monday, July 21, to Wednesday, July 23.

The COF meeting will focus on several critical issues, including economic uncertainty, emergency management, energy security, sovereignty and national security, Canada-U.S. relations, international and internal trade, labour mobility, immigration, health, and public safety. These discussions aim to address pressing concerns and shape the future of Canada.

### A Rich Itinerary

The meeting will kick off on Monday, July 21, with media registration starting at 7:00 a.m. A media centre will be available throughout the day. On Tuesday, an update from the COF Chair is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., and a closing news conference will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Edith Dumont, will visit Huntsville on Tuesday, participating in a guided arts and culture tour of notable venues such as the Algonquin Theatre, Canada Summit Centre, and Muskoka Heritage Place.

### A Prestigious Venue

Deerhurst Resort, the chosen venue for the 2025 COF meeting, previously hosted the 2010 international G8 summit, further emphasizing its historical significance. This prestigious location will now play host to another significant national gathering, providing a platform for collaboration and unity among Canadian leaders.

### Embracing the Community's Heritage

Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock stated that the event is an opportunity to showcase the community and highlight key issues affecting Canadians. The meeting will provide an opportunity to highlight Huntsville's rich culture, art, history, and Indigenous representation, offering a unique and immersive experience for all attendees.

However, it's worth noting that key Indigenous organizations, such as Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, have declined an invitation to participate in the meeting. This absence underscores the need for continued dialogue and collaboration to ensure inclusivity and representation in such important national discussions.

Jacqueline Surette, the manager of recreation, culture, and heritage, stated that Huntsville has a rich culture rooted in art, history, and Indigenous representation. The 2025 COF meeting promises to be a significant event that will not only bring together leaders from across Canada but also highlight the unique charm and character of Huntsville.
