Canada slaps 329% tariffs on Chinese cast iron pipe imports

Canada has imposed heavy provisional duties on cast iron soil pipes imported from China. The move follows allegations of dumping and unfair subsidies, with rates reaching as high as 329.2%. Importers now face urgent decisions about supply chains and costs as investigations continue.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) launched its probe on 11 July 2025 after claims that Chinese exporters were selling cast iron soil pipes below market value. On 9 September 2025, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) found a reasonable indication of injury to domestic producers.

Importers must now review how these duties will affect their operations and pricing. Those needing guidance are advised to consult trade experts. The outcome of the investigations will determine whether the duties become permanent or are lifted.
