Canada and Bosnia clash in Toronto for World Cup opener on June 12

Canada will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in their World Cup opener on June 12 in Toronto. This marks the first time the two nations meet in a competitive tournament, with Bosnia securing their spot after a penalty shootout win over Italy. The match comes as Canada rides a four-game unbeaten streak in friendlies.

Bosnia and Herzegovina earned their World Cup place by defeating Italy 1-1 in regular time, then winning 4-1 on penalties. Italy, ranked 12th in the world, missed out on qualification for the third consecutive tournament. Bosnia, currently 69th in the rankings, last appeared at the World Cup in 2014.

Canada enters the tournament as the second-highest ranked team in their group, sitting at 30th in the world. Their group also features Switzerland (19th) and Qatar (55th). A key boost for the hosts comes with the return of star defender Alphonso Davies, who has resumed full training after an injury. The June 12 clash in Toronto will be Bosnia's first World Cup match since their 2014 campaign. Canada, meanwhile, have shown strong form, remaining undefeated in their last four international friendlies.

The upcoming match will test Canada's defence against a Bosnia side fresh from a dramatic qualification. With Davies back in action and confidence high from recent results, the hosts aim to start their campaign strongly. Bosnia, despite their lower ranking, arrive with momentum after knocking out a top-tier opponent.
