Campaigner Cem Özdemir praises VfB athlete Woltemade, stating that the brand played a significant role in shaping him and provided opportunities for his career advancement.

Nick Woltemade, the 23-year-old German striker currently shining for VfB Stuttgart, has become the centre of a heated transfer battle between the Swabian club and Bayern Munich. Woltemade, who joined Stuttgart on a free transfer from Werder Bremen last summer, has been a key player for the club, scoring 12 Bundesliga goals and 5 goals in the DFB Cup during his impressive debut season.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Bayern Munich expressing a keen interest in the talented striker. However, VfB Stuttgart has firmly resisted letting him go this summer, with CEO Alexander Wehrle stating that there are no ongoing negotiations with Bayern, and Woltemade will play for Stuttgart next season unless something extraordinary happens.

The transfer talks have hit a stumbling block due to financial disagreements. Bayern initially expected to pay around €50-60 million, but Stuttgart demanded a much higher fee, initially asking for a €100 million price tag for Woltemade. Stuttgart rejected Bayern’s first offer and legally asked Bayern to stop contacting Woltemade directly, demanding a bid of at least €65 million before any negotiations would be considered.

Politician Cem Özdemir, a staunch Stuttgart fan, has expressed his desire for Woltemade to stay with the club, beyond the possibility of a transfer to Bayern Munich. Özdemir views the potential signing of Woltemade as not only a fan issue but also significant for the club's brand. As a fan, Özdemir would prefer to wear a jersey with a player's name for longer than one season.

Despite the financial disagreements, Stuttgart's leadership seems confident that Woltemade will stay for the 2025-26 season unless Bayern comes back with a much higher bid or something extraordinary changes. VfB Stuttgart has recently announced three new additions: Lorenz Assignon, Noah Darvich, and Lazar Jovanovic, indicating their commitment to building a strong squad for the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich will increase their offer for Woltemade, or whether the talented striker will stay with VfB Stuttgart, where he has already made a significant impact.
