On May 30, a campaign truck transporting Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate from the People Power Party, caught fire within the Galwol underground tunnel in Yongsan District, central Seoul. The fire was extinguished by firefighters in just 14 minutes, by 9:26 a.m.

As the truck was heading towards Sookmyung Women’s University Station, it lost balance, veered to the right, and collided with the ceiling of the tunnel. The impact caused panels on the truck to topple over, triggering a fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, with speculation suggesting the driver might have misjudged the tunnel's 3-meter (10 feet) clearance. Scorch marks on the upper panels support this theory.

This incident comes as presidential candidates are making their final campaign efforts before early voting begins. Although the fire did not halt Moon-soo's campaign, it has added an unexpected twist to the election race.
