Campaign for Chilean Presidency: Left and Far-Right Candidates Endorsed
Chile's Presidential Race Intensifies: José Antonio Kast Meets with Giorgia Meloni
As Chile gears up for its upcoming presidential election on November 16 and December 14, one of the front-runners, José Antonio Kast, is making headlines. Kast, a candidate from the Republican Party (far-right), is currently in Italy, meeting with Giorgia Meloni, the new leader of all radical right-wing movements worldwide.
Kast, who previously served as an executive in professional football, is a clear favourite in the upcoming election, having narrowly missed victory in the second round in 2021. During his trip abroad, Kast has been discussing potential strategies for Chile with Meloni, focusing on applying lessons from Italy's handling of national emergencies, immigration, and border control. Kast shared this on his Instagram, emphasizing the importance of firmness, control, and security for families.
This meeting is not the first time Kast has left Chile for an extended trip. Three out of eight presidential election candidates have taken similar steps to boost their profiles. The presidential election campaign was officially launched on September 17, and Chile's national holidays, known as the Fiestas Patrias, are approaching, commemorating the country's independence and extending into the coming weekend.
Interestingly, the Fiestas Patrias follow an unusually long austral winter. This year's celebrations are expected to be particularly lively, given the political climate. As the candidates gear up for the 2024 US election results, Kast's meeting with Meloni is likely to be a significant talking point.
In October 2022, Kast also met with Steve Bannon, a prominent political figure, during his trip abroad to support his presidential election candidacy. This meeting added to the buzz surrounding Kast's campaign, as Bannon has been associated with several controversial figures and movements.
As the 2024 US election results approach, Chileans will be closely watching the developments in the presidential election. With Kast's strong showing in the polls and his recent meetings with influential figures, it will be interesting to see how the election unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
