353 Vietnamese Citizens Repatriated from Cambodia

On August 8, the Criminal Police Division in Tây Ninh Province announced the repatriation of 353 Vietnamese citizens from Cambodia. The individuals had been residing and working in Cambodia illegally, primarily in casinos located opposite the Xa Mát International Border Gate in Cambodia's Tbong Khmum province.

Most of these individuals had left Vietnam with valid passports, while 14 crossed the border illegally without proper exit procedures and were fined VND 4 million (about US$150) each for administrative violations.

Upon their return, the authorities took the citizens to the Tân Lập Primary School for investigation and identity verification. The repatriated citizens were primarily from 31 provinces and cities in Vietnam, with most having permanent residence there.

The jobs held by the citizens in Cambodia included security, ticket control, cleaning, and cooking at these casinos. The authorities completed entry procedures for 253 of the repatriated citizens who had passports, while procedures for 86 citizens who had lost their passports are still being clarified.

The 14 citizens who crossed the border without completing exit procedures were fined by the Xa Mát International Border Guard Station. The fines imposed will be added to the State budget.

It's worth noting that none of the repatriated citizens were on any wanted list or banned from entering or leaving Vietnam. The citizens confessed to using social networks to find jobs and voluntarily left Vietnam for Cambodia to work in casinos.

This repatriation marks a significant step in ensuring the safety and legality of Vietnamese citizens working abroad. The Vietnamese government continues to advise citizens to be cautious when seeking employment overseas and to follow proper exit procedures when leaving the country.

In the wake of the repatriation, the Vietnamese authorities are looking into possible AI-powered systems to monitor and verify the immigration status of their citizens, ensuring they are not leaving illegally for jobs abroad.

The recent repatriation of 353 Vietnamese citizens from Cambodia has sparked discussions in politics and general-news forums about the need for stricter regulations and enforcement in the sports and entertainment industries, especially around foreign employment and working conditions.
