Cambodia equips 61 anti-drone barriers, Thai military fortifies position across national borders
The Thai-Cambodian border remains in a state of high tension, with the Thai military maintaining defensive positions in 11 locations along the border. The Second Army Region has called on the public to rely only on official channels, such as the official Facebook pages of the Royal Thai Army and Second Army Region, for updates on the situation on the ground.
In a recent development, the Second Army Region has thanked the government, state agencies, the private sector, and the public for their support in donating razor wire. The request for further donations has now been closed, and the Second Army Region has enough razor wire to meet operational needs. The public is urged to report any suspicious items immediately to local authorities.
On the other side of the border, Cambodia has set up 61 drone defense nets along its border with Thailand. While specific information on the setup of such nets was not detailed in the latest reports, Thai forces reported Cambodian UAV (drone) activities around contested border sites on July 24, 2025. The role of drone defense nets could be inferred as Cambodian efforts to counter Thai aerial surveillance or drone operations, though explicit confirmation of net deployments or effectiveness is not found in the sources.
The Thai military's response to the border tension has included the use of F-16 airstrikes targeting Cambodian positions, artillery fire, and ground engagements. Thailand claimed to have destroyed key Cambodian military command posts, escalated its border security, and closed the border crossing. Thailand also accused Cambodia of laying new land mines and violating ceasefire terms after the declared truce, reflecting ongoing mistrust.
Diplomatic efforts have led to an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" agreed upon at talks in Kuala Lumpur on July 28, brokered under ASEAN and UN Security Council pressure. However, violations have been reported, and the conflict's underlying territorial and political disputes remain unresolved. Both countries face internal political complexities that exacerbate the conflict.
In a separate development, the Thai army is closely monitoring the situation along the border, adhering to the agreements made in the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. Volunteers from the Royal Volunteer Corps presented flower bouquets and royal gifts to wounded soldiers at Fort Weerawatyothin Hospital in Surin, aiming to boost morale and show the King's care for those who have sacrificed for the nation.
Despite the ongoing tension, the ceasefire remains in effect, with both countries continuing their diplomatic efforts towards a peaceful resolution. The public is encouraged to stay informed and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
