A confrontation at the University U-bahn station between rival factions saw the dispersal of tear gas, injuring four individuals, including two law enforcement personnel.
Crowded fan zones
Three massive fan zones were established in the city - the most significant at the Olympic Park was closed approximately three hours before kick-off due to overcrowding. Over 23,000 people were accounted for by the police at that location.
The "PSG Fan Meet Spot" on the Königsplatz was brimming with spectators in the evening - it could accommodate a grand total of 18,000 people. Around 16,500 people were able to cheer on at the "Inter Fan Zone" on the Odeonsplatz.
The police ensured the game and accompanying events' security with roughly 2,000 officers. The Munich Police Department was assisted by officers from across Bavaria.
Vast checkpoints for football fans
The U-bahn entrances at the Odeonsplatz were temporarily sealed for safety reasons due to the massive crowds. Otherwise, the federal police reported only a handful of incidences. There were numerous border checkpoints for persons and vehicles at entry points from France and Austria. Occasionally, football fans were found with prohibited pyrotechnics in their possession.
Minimal disruptions in public transport
There were no significant disturbances related to the football match in Munich's train stations and stops, as well as in long-distance, regional, and public transport.
The day prior to the game, around 20 Italian and French soccer fans got into heated arguments in a hotel ditch situated near Augsburg. Several patrols were called to the scene by the police.
