Eva Lys Calmly Steps Up as Germany's Top Grass Court Player: Preparing for Wimbledon with Confidence and Balance
Calm Demeanor of Lys: Unperturbed by Top Position - Calm composure of Lys amidst pressure of top position not causing undue stress.
Eva Lys, at just 23 years old, is unfazed by her new role as the top grass court player for Germany. "Sure, there's a bit more pressure now, but it pushes me to stay where I am," Lys said during the grass tournament in Berlin. "Being Germany's number one gives me more confidence than stress."
With a ranking of 60th in the world, Lys, who was born in Ukraine, is comfortable with the pressure that comes along with any position. "Every position brings some pressure, but I've felt quite at ease with it these past few months," she reported.
As the Wimbledon tournament looms on the horizon, Lys aims to use the Berlin event as a stepping stone to hone her skills on grass and prepare herself for the classic event beginning late June. This will be Lys' debut in the Wimbledon main draw.
In the opening match of the tournament in Berlin, Lys will face Spanish top player Paula Badosa. "I'm eager to prove that I rightfully earned the title of Germany's number one," Lys commented on her goals for the 500 event in Grunewald.
Navigating Pressure and Performing on Grass
As a top grass court player, Lys knows the importance of nailing both her gameplay and mental strength. Drawing from her experience managing an autoimmune condition (spondyloarthritis), Lys emphasizes the importance of balance. "I need to balance intensive practice sessions with the necessary rest and recovery," she confessed.
Lys also recognizes the need for self-awareness in managing her workload. "I have to keep an eye on my body, and adjust my training schedule if needed. Whether I'm resting or practicing, I always make time for regeneration," she explained.
Despite days when her body might not be cooperating, Lys remains patient and self-assured, knowing that recovery is the key to keeping her at the top of her game.
Berlin to Wimbledon: Improving Grass Court Skills
By prioritizing rigorous practice and self-care, Lys embarks on her Wimbledon campaign with a disciplined routine geared towards both her robust grass court game and her composed mindset. " I have already learned from experience that on grass, I play my best," Lys reflected. " Reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and qualifying at Roehampton last year are great examples of how the faster surface suits my playing style."
As the Berlin tournament kicks off, Lys eagerly awaits the challenge ahead and the opportunity to prove her worth on grass courts, ultimately setting herself up for success in the iconic Wimbledon tournament.
Eva Lys, amidst her preparation for Wimbledon, acknowledges the value of balancing her intense practice sessions with rest and recovery, much like the Commission's emphasis on workers' protection from carcinogens relies on the balance between risk and safety. Just as Lys gears up to enhance her skills on grass courts, so does the EU intend to do with the Approximation of the Laws of the Member States relating to the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens.
