Call of Duty: Warzone Brings Back Blackout Mode in Spring 2026
Call of Duty: Warzone is set to introduce a major new experience inspired by the original Blackout mode from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The Black Ops 6 alignment, coming in Spring 2026, will bring a Blackout-inspired mode to Warzone, set on the mysterious island of Avalon. Fans can expect a beta on October 2.
Treyarch's associate director of design, Lawrence Metten, expressed excitement for the return of Blackout, despite not working on the original. The new experience is directly inspired by Blackout, which differentiated itself with zombie encounters and advanced traversal systems. However, little is known about how it will be incorporated into the current Warzone offering.
Miles Leslie, a 20-year veteran of Treyarch and associate creative director of Black Ops 6, is also excited about the upcoming mode. He noted close collaboration between Treyarch and other studios on the project but could not discuss it further yet. The team coordinating the development, led by David 'Section' Mason, is associated with the elite team depicted in the game narrative, but the explicit name of the developer team is not provided.
In other Warzone news, the team is focusing on improving the quality and consistency of ground loot. Some key incoming changes include a limit of five attachments to weapons, removal of Wildcards, and Tactical Sprint requiring the 'Sprinter' Perk.
The Black Ops 6 alignment brings significant changes to Warzone, including a Blackout-inspired mode set on Avalon. Fans can expect improvements to ground loot and other gameplay adjustments. The beta will be accessible on October 2, giving players a first look at the upcoming changes.
