California senator alleged for driving under influence found innocent as blood analysis reveals no traces of drugs or alcohol.

California Senator Sabrina Cervantes, a first-year politician representing the 31st Senate District, has been cleared of DUI charges following a car crash near the Capitol on May 19, 2025. The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office declined to file charges in the case, citing a lack of evidence to support intoxication claims.

Initially, police officers at the scene suspected Cervantes of driving under the influence based on observations made during questioning at a hospital following her SUV's collision with another vehicle. However, after a thorough review of evidence, prosecutors found no measurable amount of alcohol or drugs in Cervantes' system in laboratory results from a blood sample taken post-crash.

Sacramento police had reported observing objective signs of potential impairment in Cervantes during their interview at the hospital, but the District Attorney's Office stated that there was no basis for filing charges due to the negative blood toxicology results. Cervantes' office released redaction-ed medical records following the collision that indicated her behavior and vital signs were not irregular either.

Cervantes, 37, who previously served in the state Assembly, issued a statement expressing relief and frustration over the ordeal. "As I stated from the beginning, I did absolutely nothing wrong, and the Sacramento District Attorney's Office has now affirmed as much," she said. "While my name was cleared, this ordeal was entirely unnecessary. It has also caused my family and me enormous stress and pain. No one deserves this."

This incident marks a recent case of a celebrity's DUI charges being dismissed or reduced. In a similar vein, Tiffany Haddish's DUI charges in L.A. were dropped after a "wet reckless" plea deal, as also reported by our outlet.
