Small-town LA gal, Cynthia Gonzalez, the Vice Mayor of Cudahy, finds herself in hot water after posting a controversial video on social media. In a now-deleted clip, she appeals to local tough guys, the so-called "cholos," often associated with gangs like the 18th Street and Florencia crews.

Gonzalez's speech questioned the silence from these gang leaders amidst escalating immigration sweeps across Los Angeles. She accused them of hiding when their "hood" was getting overrun by a "bigger gang" - a not-so-subtle reference to federal immigration agents.

"Hey gang leaders, where you at? Now that your turf's being invaded, there's crickets chirping. Don't be claiming streets if you're not fighting for them now," she said, implicitly calling on them to "help out and organize."

Protests ensued, with the Department of Homeland Security labeling her words "despicable," going as far as to tie them to a fivefold increase in assaults against ICE officers. The department's statement included a snippet of Gonzalez's video.

In response, Gonzalez remained tight-lipped when approached for comment. The city of Cudahy, home to approximately 22,000 residents, mostly of Hispanic heritage, remained noncommittal about the issue in an official statement, clarifying that her comments were a reflection of her personal view and not that of the city.

Amidst the storm, Gonzalez recently took on a role as Director of the Principal Leadership Institute at UCLA and was spotted at a city hall meeting discussing immigration raids with fellow local leaders. Her legal team, however, later issued a statement defending her, asserting she hadn't advocated for violence but encouraged peaceful community organization against immigration enforcement.

And so, the tale unfolds, the vice mayor's controversial call to action has sparked backlash, fueled by fears of violence and potential investigations, yet her legal camp insists she merely intended to rally community support, not incite violence. The video, as they say, never lies.
