John Bennett began his career at the turn of the century, working for his long-time friend, David Smail, a New Zealand professional golfer. Together, they won seven of Smail's career titles, including the 2001 New Zealand Open. After eight years with Smail, Bennett ventured into the Japanese golf scene, working with Sakura Yokomine and Ayaka Matsumori.
With Bennett by her side, Matsumori achieved victory at the 2016 Fujitsu Ladies. After Yokomine's switch, Bennett worked with Miyu Yamashita, joining her team in 2025. Their partnership proved fruitful, as Yamashita earned her LPGA Tour card via Q-Series following her most recent victory, the Daio Paper Elleair Ladies Open.
