Bystander Intervenes After Derogatory Remarks Towards Foreign Women
In the afternoon of an unspecified day, a jogger in Greenau, Berlin, found himself witnessing a racially insulting incident on a park bench along Regattastraße.
At approximately 4:40 PM, a 23-year-old man, who was out for a run, came across two individuals, a man and a woman, engaging in abusive and offensive behaviour towards two female walkers. The suspects continued their abusive behaviour until the jogger intervened.
However, the two women walked away from the scene before the police arrived, appearing shaken by the incident. The suspects, who have not been identified beyond their ages and genders, also threatened the witness when he intervened to stop the abuse.
The 55-year-old man and his 58-year-old companion were checked by the police and agreed to a voluntary breathalyzer test, both registering over two promille.
The investigation is being handled by a specialist commissioner from the Police State Protection department of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office. Despite extensive searches, the name of the commissioner responsible for the investigation or the police station where he works has not been disclosed.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up against racism and hate speech, and the need for continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community.
