BYD's German offensive: Premium cars, ultra-fast charging, and 300 new dealerships by 2026

BYD is pushing into the German market with a bold expansion plan. The Chinese automaker will introduce new models tailored for Europe, including station wagons and fleet vehicles. A premium brand, Denza, is also set to launch in May 2026 with two flagship models—the Z9 GT and D9 van.

The company is working to overcome local scepticism by positioning itself as a German-friendly brand. A German chief designer leads the development of Europe-specific vehicles, reinforcing this approach. BYD also plans to grow its dealer network from around 150 to 300 locations by the end of 2026.

Denza will operate through flagship city stores and independent dealerships, targeting about 40 locations nationwide. The brand serves as BYD's premium and technology spearhead, helping shift perceptions of Chinese automakers in Germany.

To support its expansion, BYD is rolling out its 'Flash Charging' network. This system delivers up to 1,000 kW of power and can charge multiple cars at once, reducing wait times. Dealerships will feature these chargers, and partnerships with major network operators will expand access. The technology aims to benefit high-mileage drivers and fleets by closing the gap between theoretical and real-world charging speeds.

BYD has also addressed security concerns, stating full compliance with European and German legal frameworks. The company denies any involvement in espionage, focusing instead on building trust through local investment and infrastructure.

The launch of Denza in 2026 will mark a key step in BYD's European strategy. With custom-built vehicles, an expanded dealer network, and ultra-fast charging, the brand is targeting both private buyers and commercial fleets. The success of this push will depend on how well the company can integrate into the German market.
