By 2024, cyclists in our city are aiming to circumnavigate the city's perimeter more than thrice, equivalent to cycle trips around the Earth.
In the heart of Germany, our city made a significant mark in the Cycling Challenge 2024, a prestigious event that took place in Laatzen from September 10 to 17, 2025. The challenge was part of the 1st International Cycling Competition with partner cities.
Heiko Rammenstein, a member of Team KSV from our city, was named the Best Individual Cyclist in the competition. Rammenstein covered a remarkable distance of 2,222.2 kilometers, showcasing his dedication and passion for cycling.
Our city's cycling enthusiasts didn't disappoint either. With 620 cyclists, our city ranked 31st in Hesse and 489th nationwide. The city's team spirit was further demonstrated by BikeToZero (VW), who had 107 active cyclists in the challenge.
BikeToZero's team captain, Florian Rabani, also participated in the event, and the team achieved an impressive distance of 32,066.1 kilometers. The Best School, Theodor-Heuss-Schule, was represented by Andreas Sahl, a teacher who covered an astonishing 9,158.5 kilometers.
The Best Politician, Robert Szeltner (City Councilor SPD), also participated, covering a distance of 661.8 km. The city was proudly represented by the magistrate at the event.
The Cycling Challenge 2024 was a significant milestone for our city, which was named the most cycling-friendly city in Germany in the category up to 50,000 inhabitants in the ADFC Cycling Climate Test in 2022.
As a token of appreciation, a sweet gum tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) was planted in the White Field residential area as part of the Cycling Challenge 2024. The names of the winners are immortalized on a sign on the new tree.
