Buttler Puts England ODI Commitments Above IPL Play-offs

The Gujarat Titans are on the brink of securing a play-off position in the Indian Premier League (IPL), needing just one victory from their remaining three matches. As they prepare for their resumed matches, starting this Saturday, the Titans currently sit comfortably at the top of the standings.

However, the IPL has faced a significant disruption due to escalating political issues between India and Pakistan. As a result, the IPL play-offs are now scheduled to begin on May 29, coinciding with England's one-day international series against the West Indies.

Jos Buttler, the star batsman for the Gujarat Titans, has been selected for England's one-day international squad, aligning with this scheduling change. Buttler's decision to forgo the IPL play-offs is due to England's white-ball series against the West Indies. He plans to return to India for the last matches of the group stage before traveling back to England for the first ODI on May 29.

Buttler's decision is not isolated, as all-rounders Jacob Bethell from the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Will Jacks from the Mumbai Indians are also expected to follow suit. The Royal Challengers, currently in second place, also require a win in one of their three upcoming matches to achieve qualification for the IPL play-offs.

In light of Buttler's absence, reports indicate that Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis is likely to be recruited by the Gujarat Titans as a substitute. However, the Titans have not officially announced a replacement for Buttler if he decides not to participate in the IPL playoffs.

The IPL final is scheduled for June 3, providing ample opportunity for teams to make their play-off push. As the competition heats up, fans can look forward to an exciting conclusion to the 2023 IPL season.
