Businessman in Amroha threatened with extortion for 2 crores by Bishnoi Gang

The investigation into a series of extortion demands and death threats against the Hashmi family in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, is currently underway. The family, led by businessman Sirajuddin Hashmi and his son Burhanuddin, have reportedly received threatening calls and WhatsApp messages demanding ₹2 crore between July 30 and August 1, 2025.

The case, initially assigned to a sub-inspector, was escalated to Nagar inspector Pankaj Tomar due to its seriousness. Three separate teams, along with cyber cell support, have been deployed to identify the accused and take necessary action.

The location of the number from which the threats were made is believed to be in Portugal. The caller identified himself as Rahul, allegedly the younger brother of Rohit Godara, a key associate of the notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The extortionist claimed he would call again on Saturday at 2 pm, but no call was received. The family has since limited their movement outside their home due to the threats. Attempts to reconnect with the number failed, as it was found to be switched off. An FIR has been lodged at Nagar Kotwali against an unidentified person.

In response to the threats, the local administration has taken prompt action. The superintendent of police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand visited the family and assured them of security. WhatsApp has been contacted for technical assistance in the case.

The cybercrime team is currently tracing the IP address and location of the sender. Police have requested technical data from WhatsApp officials to aid in the probe. Given the gravity of the threat, the case has been escalated to higher-level officers.

The Hashmi family, known for running the popular Hashmi Dawakhana in Amroha, has formally reported the matter to senior police authorities, prompting an alert response from the local administration.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working diligently to track and apprehend those involved in issuing the threats and extortion demands. The cooperation of WhatsApp and the successful tracing of the IP address and location of the sender are crucial steps in this ongoing investigation.
