A Businessman from Omsk and His Hired Driver Face Charges in Kirovskaya Region
In an unexpected turn of events announced on Monday, May 5, 2025, the press service of the investigative agencies in Kirovskaya Region disclosed the indictment of the director of an Omsk commercial company, as well as his hired truck driver, under the charge of "Damaging Road Infrastructure" based on the evidence found following a bridge collapse over the Moloma River.
"On April 24, 2025, the truck driver of a Mercedes-Benz Acros L4, knowing that the weight of the transport vehicle with the trailer and the load exceeded 137 tons (over five times the permissible weight on the section where the incident occurred), without the necessary permit, drove the vehicle as part of a service agreement to drive the client's vehicle. This led to the bridge collapse." - according to the official announcement.
As reported by the SKR SU of Kirovskaya Region, the mentioned weight limit was exceeded significantly. The identity of the businessman, along with his stance regarding the accusations, remains unclear at this point. His actions currently fall under the category of "Damaging Transport Vehicles or Infrastructure Causing Harm by Recklessness," which carries a maximum sentence of up to 4 years in prison.
