Burlington tightens rules for 2025 loose-leaf collection to prevent flooding

Burlington’s annual loose-leaf collection will begin on November 10, 2025. This year, the city has introduced stricter rules to prevent obstructions and flooding risks. Residents must follow updated guidelines to avoid fines under the revised Lot Maintenance By-law.

The programme requires leaves to be raked to the edge of the curb or roadway in loose piles. They must be placed no more than two days before the scheduled pick-up for each zone. Mixing leaves with branches or other debris will result in non-collection.

The city aims to keep sidewalks, bike lanes, and drainage systems clear during the collection period. Residents must check their zone’s pick-up week and ensure leaves do not obstruct public spaces. Failure to comply with the new by-law could result in fines for significant violations.
