Eintracht Frankfurt Inching Closer to Securing Burkardt Transfer

Previously deadlocked negotiations between Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05 over Jonathan Burkardt's transfer may finally come to fruition.

Frankfurt am Main/Mainz - After months of uncertainty, it appears that Jonathan Burkardt is on the verge of making a move to Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite previous assurances from Mainz's sporting director, Christian Heidel, that Burkardt would remain a 05er, the player has reportedly made a fundamental decision to join Frankfurt this summer.

The desire to leave the club has become apparent among players and officials in Mainz. In addition to Frankfurt, Bayer 04 Leverkusen is also said to be in talks for Burkardt's signature. However, according to Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt is favored in the race for Burkardt's services.

Burkardt, a 24-year-old striker, had previously considered a move to Frankfurt last season but stayed with Mainz out of loyalty. Burkardt originally joined Mainz 05 from Darmstadt 98's youth academy in 2014.

The transfer remains contingent on negotiating the financial terms. If an agreement can be reached between Frankfurt and Burkardt, it is expected to be a fair process. Reported figures suggest that Frankfurt is willing to pay between €18-20 million for Burkardt.

There is a reported release clause of €20 million in Burkardt's contract with Mainz, although both the club and the player have remained silent on this matter. Insiders have alleged that there is no such clause, while Bild reports that there is a side agreement between Mainz and Burkardt regarding the clause. If Mainz receives a higher fee, the excess will be shared between the club, the player, and his representatives.

It is a significant step in Eintracht Frankfurt's transfer strategy, as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. There is no word yet on Frankfurt's plans for Can Uzun, but it is understood that the clubs' business relationship remains intact.

Jonathan Burkardt's potential move to Eintracht Frankfurt, should it materialize, could position the club strongly within European leagues, given his skills as a striker. Meanwhile, Frankfurt continues to negotiate the financial terms of Burkardt's transfer, with reported figures suggesting a potential fee between €18-20 million.
