The aftermath of the Federal Election: BSW's disappointing bid for parliament
- *
Bundestag Elections Results: No Representation for BSW Despite Final Count - Bundestag Elections Result: Berlin State Woman's Party (BSW) Remains Excluded
Despite the Final Results, the BSW, spearheaded by Sahra Wagenknecht, fell short of securing a seat in parliament. Despite an additional 4,277 valid second votes, as confirmed by the Federal Election Committee in Berlin, they still sat just below the five-percent threshold, garnering 4.98 percent.
The composition of seats in the 21st German Bundestag remained the same, with CDU/CSU securing 28.5%, AfD bagging 20.8%, and the SPD managing 16.4%. The Greens and Die Linke collected 11.6% and 8.8% respectively, while the FDP missed out on entering the Bundestag with a meager 4.3%. This translates to: CDU/CSU 208, AfD 152, SPD 120, Greens 85, Die Linke 64, and SSW 1.
Modified vote counts for multiple parties
Not only the BSW, several other parties faced slight alterations in the absolute number of valid second votes. For instance, the CDU scored an additional 1,674 votes, the SPD 840, and the AfD 1,632. On the flip side, 121 votes were deducted from the FDP. According to Federal Election Commissioner, Ruth Brand, these shifts were mainly due to revisions of preliminary second vote results in Lower Saxony (plus 3,271), Bavaria (plus 932), and Baden-Württemberg (plus 912).
Brand also reported minor discrepancies in the election. In the Rhineland-Palatinate constituency of Trier, voting materials for Berlin-Pankow were mistakenly delivered by the printer. Fifteen voters mistakenly cast their votes with these ballots, which were subsequently deemed invalid.
Triple voting incidents reported
In various federal states, voting materials were accidentally mailed out twice in individual cases. Immediate precautions were put in place to prevent double voting. Unluckily, three cases of double voting were documented, for instance, in the Thuringian constituency of Eichsfeld-Nordhausen-Kyffhäuserkreis. Here, a person deceived the election board, allowing another to obtain a second ballot and subsequently cast two votes. Similar occurrences took place in Hamburg-Wandsbek and the Saxon constituency of Erzgebirgskreis I. In all three cases, a criminal complaint was lodged, Brand stated.

- The Commission, in light of the Federal Election results and Sahra Wagenknecht's BSW's disappointing bid for parliament, has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation.
- Despite the revision of preliminary second vote results in Lower Saxony, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg, the additional 840 valid second votes for the SPD did not help them surpass the five-percent threshold, as the composition of seats in the 21st German Bundestag remained the same.
- With three cases of double voting documented in Thuringia, Hamburg, and Saxony, Federal Election Commissioner Ruth Brand lodged criminal complaints in all three instances.
