Bundesliga star transfers to the Premier League for a whopping 85 million euros.
Benjamin Sesko, the prolific striker who made a name for himself at RB Leipzig, has completed his transfer to Manchester United. The 23-year-old Slovenian forward, who joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in the summer of 2023, will now continue his career at Old Trafford, having signed a contract that runs until 2030.
During his tenure at Leipzig, Sesko made 87 appearances across all competitions, scoring an impressive 39 goals and providing eight assists. His standout performance came in the 2023/24 season, where he played 42 games and netted 18 goals. In the following season, he appeared in 45 games, scoring 21 goals, making him the club's top scorer for the 2024/25 season.
Sesko's time at Leipzig was not without its highlights. He became the youngest player to score in seven consecutive Bundesliga games and was the club's top scorer in the 2024/25 season with 21 goals.
The transfer fee for Sesko is reportedly 85 million euros, with an initial fixed fee of 76.5 million euros. Newcastle United had also shown interest in the young striker, but Manchester United ultimately secured his services.
Sesko's departure from Leipzig was hinted at during the friendly against Atalanta Bergamo last Saturday, as he was not included in the squad. Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schaefer, expressed his disappointment at Sesko's exit, stating that it is a loss for the club, but they are proud to have developed a player for the Premier League and one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Upon completing his move to Manchester United, Sesko expressed his affection for RB Leipzig, stating "Die Roten Bullen will always have a special place in my heart." He also emphasized his loyalty to the club by using the phrase "Once a Red Bull, always a Red Bull!"
