Bundesliga on a Roll towards Potential Fifth Spot in Champions League
With the Bundesliga showing impressive form in international competitions, it's looking like Germany could snag another spot in the coveted UEFA Champions League for the 2024/25 season.
The league's improved performance means there'll be 36 teams battling it out in the top tier from next year, opening up two new spots for the nations with the best UEFA annual coefficient. As it stands, Germany is currently placing second with a coefficient of 12.642, trailing only Italy and just ahead of Spain and England. With the exception of Union Berlin, all Bundesliga clubs are still in the European Cup mix, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, SC Freiburg, and Eintracht Frankfurt all in contention.
While England and Spain have already seen two clubs drop out of the running, Italy and France will still have a full contingent of teams in the Champions League. With Frankfurt's Europa League victory last year securing them a spot in the Champions League, a fifth spot for German teams is not out of the question. If Leverkusen or Freiburg manage to win the Europa League in 2024, they could easily earn a place in the top tier, making it six German teams in the Champions League.
