Banged-Up Bayern Munich Seeking Their First Win in 2023
Bayern Munich, Germany's most successful club, boasts an impressive 32 domestic titles. Their nearest competitor, 1. FC Nurnberg, has only managed nine. Interestingly, Bayern has won over a third of its titles in the 21st century, and has been the Bundesliga champion every year since 2012.
In seven out of the last ten Bundesliga-winning seasons, Bayern's top scorer has been Robert Lewandowski. Unfortunately for the club, he left at the start of this season. To fill in his absence, Bayern brought in Sadio Mane from Liverpool. Mane started his new career with a bang, but then suffered an injury in November and is still out of action.
Not only is Mane still on the sidelines, but other key players, notably captain Manuel Neuer, are also injured. Neuer was hurt on a skiing holiday in December and will be out of action until the end of the season. To compensate, Bayern signed Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach, but Sommer hasn't been in top form since joining Bayern.
The result is that Bayern Munich hasn't been as impressive as expected in the 2022-23 season. Despite this, they still top the table, but several teams could overtake them as early as February.
Eintracht Frankfurt Planning Vengeance for Months
The current Europa League champions have high aspirations for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, particularly in the Bundesliga. They're currently fourth, only five points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
What sets Eintracht apart is their unbeaten run in competitive matches since October. That's when they lost to Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at home. Since then, they've been impressive in almost every aspect of the game.
Their standout player has been French international Randal Kolo Muani, who's already scored 7 Bundesliga goals this season. He's also recorded 10 assists, more than any other player in the league.
This guy tends to come up big in key games - just consider his goal for France in the semifinals against Morocco. This is why we believe he might score or assist on Saturday. The question is whether his contribution will be enough to earn points against Bayern Munich.
