Bully's Perspective: "The Woke Movement has intrinsic value"
In an unexpected turn of events, German comedian and filmmaker Michael Bully Herbig has expressed his views on the balance between calmness and awareness in debates, particularly in relation to the "Woke movement" and creative freedom in filmmaking.
Herbig, known for his comedic and satirical works, is the director of the highly successful German cinema film "Das Kanu des Manitu," a sequel to the Western parody "Der Schuh des Manitu." The film's release has been met with controversy, with some critics quick to bash it without giving it a chance.
"I believe that people should make a nice film first before criticizing it," Herbig stated in an interview. He further added, "It's wrong to bash everything offensive and call it 'woke' today."
Herbig's remarks come as a surprise, given the rigidity of viewpoints towards "Das Kanu des Manitu." The filmmaker expressed his surprise at this reaction, stating that he did not expect people to start bashing the film instead of watching it first.
Despite the controversy, Herbig sees the growing awareness of injustices, hurtful, or racist representations as a positive development. However, he believes that the Woke movement can tip in the wrong direction if taken too far.
"Debates in Germany should be conducted more calmly," Herbig asserted, advocating for a more balanced approach to discussions. He believes that people need to listen more, and that calmness is crucial in fostering productive debates.
Herbig's stance on creative freedom in filmmaking is not new. He has consistently advocated for the importance of artistic expression, urging audiences to approach films with an open mind.
"Das Kanu des Manitu" is set to be released on August 14, and fans are eagerly awaiting the film. As the debate surrounding the film continues, Herbig's call for calmness and understanding serves as a reminder that constructive criticism can lead to growth and improvement in the industry.
