Bulgaria’s caustic soda market shrinks 20% in 2024 after five years of growth
Bulgaria's caustic soda market experienced a downturn in 2024, with imports, exports, and production all declining. Romania remained the largest supplier and the main destination for Bulgarian exports. The average import price stood at $400 per ton, down 10% from the previous year, ranging between $300 and $500. Bulgaria's caustic soda exports also decreased in 2024, by 20% to 800 tons, ending a five-year rising trend. The average export price was $450 per ton, a 15% decrease from 2023. The Bulgarian caustic soda market shrank by 20% to $300 million in 2024. Production contracted to $200 million, showing a relatively flat trend since 2012. Despite the decline, Romania remained a significant partner for both imports and exports.
