Bulgaria: Flax Fabric Market 2025

Bulgaria’s flax fabric market grew by 46% in 2024, reaching $15 million. This marks the second year of recovery after three consecutive declines. However, exports and imports both fell sharply during the same period.

The Bulgarian flax fabric market hit $15 million in 2024, up from a long slump after peaking at $25 million in 2014. Despite this growth, consumption never fully rebounded from the drop between 2015 and 2023.

Production value surged in 2024, though the overall trend remained relatively flat over the years. Meanwhile, export volumes and values both declined for the second year running. The value of exported flax fabrics plummeted to $X, reversing gains from previous years.

Imports also shrank significantly, dropping by X% to X square meters in 2024. The average import price, however, rose by X%, reaching $X per square meter. Italy remained the top supplier, holding a X% share of Bulgaria’s flax fabric imports.

Romania stayed the largest export market, with steady growth of 45%. Poland and Turkey saw the highest export surges, rising by 250% and 180% respectively. Over the past decade, Lithuania’s imports into Bulgaria grew the fastest, jumping 300% since 2018 due to shifts in EU trade patterns.

Bulgaria’s flax fabric market expanded in 2024, but exports and imports continued to decline. Poland and Turkey led export growth, while Lithuania dominated import increases. The sector now faces a mixed outlook of rising domestic demand but shrinking international trade.
