Persistent Pursuit Against Bukow's Target - Bukow's Past Continues to Plague Him Over the Years

Get the scoop on Charly Hübner's life after his iconic role as Alexander Bukow in the ARD crime series "Polizeiruf 110."

Charly Hübner, the 52-year-old actor, left his mark on the small screen as Rostocker Kommissar Alexander Bukow from 2010 to 2022. Recently he made a splash with a fresh role in the anthology series "Why I?"

Bukow's farewell on "Polizeiruf 110" came on January 9, 2022, with his Rostock episode titled "Keiner von uns." Bukow bid adieu to his hometown at the episode's end. Speaking about his emotional connection to the role in a "Playboy" interview, Hübner revealed, "At some point, I realized that Bukow had become too much a part of me, and that doesn't fit with the concept I have of my profession."

The Persistence of Bukow

Hübner explained that his craft is about becoming someone else, and with Bukow, it became increasingly difficult to detach himself from the character. "And with Bukow, it became just as challenging to move away from the character and back to myself.” It took a whole year after he left "Polizeiruf 110" for the role to "really leave my body". He further shared, "His walk, for example, he had this boxer's gait. And his gruffness, his sparseness, certain quirks that have crept into my subconscious.”

When it comes to his new role in "Why I?", Hübner takes on the character of country singer Jeff Kanter for the episode "Cowboys." In an intriguing plot twist, Kanter faces an unexpected surprise at a living room concert.

The allure of the cowboy character appealed to Hübner, who reveled, "I used to dress up as a cowboy for every second carnival as a child." He added, "I liked the self-made idea, not letting yourself be beaten down, that has also influenced my further path very much.”
