Hey there!

The downward trend in our area's construction permits refuses to budge, according to recent stats. Last year, our building authorities green-lit a meager 2,154 projects—that's around one-third fewer compared to the year prior, when 3,377 permits were handed out. Remember 2022, when approvals skyrocketed to an impressive 4,556?

The drop in approvals for single- and two-family homes has been nothing short of striking. Take a look: just 689 single-family and 77 two-family homes were given the thumbs-up. Compare that to the numbers in 2023 and 2022, when they stood at a whopping 1,423 single-family and 137 two-family homes, and an astounding 2,489 single-family and 220 two-family homes, respectively.

Adding apartments in multi-family homes to the mix, 3,139 residential units received the go-ahead for construction last year. That's a significant decrease from the 4,995 units approved in the previous year and the 6,914 units in 2022.

  1. Despite the declining trend in construction permits in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, there is a possibility for community aid to support vocational training for individuals who wish to pursue careers in construction, thereby contributing to a larger workforce ready for the rebound in construction projects in 2023.
  2. The building authority will require a permit for the community aid project focused on providing vocational training in various construction trades to equip more locals with the skills needed to support the revival of the construction industry in the region.
  3. By the end of 2023, it is hoped that the outcome from the community aid project, offering vocational training for 689 unemployed individuals, will lead to a lower number of pending construction projects and help reverse the current downward trend in permit approvals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
