Buffs Bolster Football Roster with Four Transfers
Football season is in full swing for the Colorado Buffaloes, and they're making some serious moves!
The Buffaloes snagged three new commitments on Wednesday alone, with more to come. Their latest additions include a couple of former Tennessee players, offensive lineman Larry Johnson III and defensive back John Slaughter, as well as Incarnate Word running back DeKalon Taylor. Colorado was also fortunate enough to land a commitment from Kansas State defensive back Noah King on Wednesday night.
John Slaughter saw action in 23 games over two seasons at Tennessee but primarily on special teams. He made his debut interception against UTEP and has two years of eligibility remaining. Larry Johnson III, a top junior college prospect, didn’t play much during his time with the Volunteers, but he brings size and experience to the Colorado offensive line.
DeKalon Taylor is a dynamic running back who rushed for 909 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games last season at Incarnate Word. He averaged an impressive 6.0 yards per carry and even had a record-breaking 97-yard touchdown run against Northern Arizona. Taylor also recorded 22 receptions for 122 yards and ranked 6th in the FCS level for punt return average.
It's worth mentioning that Colorado was in need of reinforcements on the defensive back field, following multiple NFL departures. They've addressed this concern by adding John Slaughter, former Auburn safety Terrance Love, and Illinois State transfer Teon Parks. Additional incoming transfers include DeKalon Taylor, Larry Johnson III, Noah King, Hykeem Williams, and Xavier Hill.
The latest addition, Noah King, was a highly-touted four-star recruit who enrolled at Kansas State in January but will now play his true freshman season with the Buffaloes. He is expected to play cornerback for Colorado but can also play safety. King starred at Hamilton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, recording 41 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one interception as a senior last fall.
Expectations are high for this new-look Colorado football team, as they aim to rebuild their defense and revive their running game. With these recent additions, they are certainly off to a strong start!
