Geared Towards Aspiring Bassists: Harley Benton's PB-62, A Budget-Friendly Homage To The Iconic Fender Precision Bass

Stepping into the world of bass guitar playing couldn't be easier with Harley Benton's latest addition to their Vintage Series—the PB-62. This single-pickup four-string bass guitar subtly tips its hat to the timeless Fender Precision Bass, making it an enticing option for budding bassists.

Naming is indeed deceitful, as the PB-62 takes no claims to being a vintage replica. Still, its design undeniably reflects Fender's original classic, giving it an allure for the newcomer. The PB-62 comes in three finishes—Olympic White, Sunburst, and Black—with a left-handed Black option also available. Despite its budget-friendly price tag, these bass guitars remain visually appealing.

The black and Sunburst models feature a 3-ply tortoiseshell pickguard that adds a touch of sophistication. Meanwhile, the Olympic White model offers a striking contrast with its mint green pickguard, making it stand out in a crowd.

Simplicity is the name of the game when it comes to the PB-62's electronics setup. It comes equipped with a single Roswell PBA Alnico V pickup, along with volume and tone controls. While the absence of an active preamp and blend controls may seem austere, this straightforward configuration proves to be surprisingly versatile. Harley Benton attests to its suitability for various genres, including jazz, blues, punk, and heavy metal. In short, plug and play.

Ergonomics come into play with Harley Benton's thoughtful design. The solid basswood body receiver some contouring to ensure it's comfortable for new players. This thoughtful touch helps make the instrument lighter, alleviating strain during extended play sessions.

The PB-62 features a 34-inch scale, a 12-inch radius laurel fingerboard, and a caramelized Canadian hard rock maple neck. Notable details include 20 frets, white ABS dot inlays, a graphite nut, a four-saddle B401 CR bridge with brass saddles, and matching chrome CB01-CR open-gear tuners.

Priced affordably, these bass guitars can be found on Thomann for £136/$180. For more details, head over to Harley Benton.
