Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Rookie Wide Receiver Emeka Egbuka Deals with Hip Injury Ahead of Jets Game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for their third straight game this Sunday against the New York Jets, and one of the key players they'll be keeping a close eye on is rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

Egbuka, the 19th overall pick in the NFL draft from Ohio State, has made a strong start to his professional career, recording eight catches for 96 yards and three touchdowns through the first two games of the season. In the opener, he had four catches and scored two touchdowns, while in the game against the Houston Texans, he had four catches and scored one more touchdown.

However, Egbuka missed practice on Thursday due to a hip/groin injury. He returned to practice on Friday, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to play against the Jets.

Mike Evans, the star wide receiver for the Bucs, is expected to be the team's primary target for quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has a foot/toe injury but practiced this week. Egbuka has been the No. 2 option for the Bucs behind Evans, and his absence could be felt if he is unable to play.

The Bucs have started the season with a 2-0 record, making a significant mark on the AFC North. However, they have several other players dealing with injuries, including offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and wide receivers Cody Mauch, SirVocea Dennis, and Haason Reddick. Chris Godwin, another wide receiver for the Bucs, continues to make progress but is not expected to play this week.

Despite the injuries, the Bucs are optimistic about Egbuka's potential as a weapon for the team in the foreseeable future. He has been impressive in his first two games, and the team is counting on him to help lead them to their third straight win against the Jets on Sunday.

It's worth noting that the maximum number of players on an NFL roster during the regular season and playoffs is 53 active players. With several players dealing with injuries, the Bucs will need to manage their roster carefully in the coming weeks.

Regardless of who is available to play, the Bucs will be looking to continue their winning streak and solidify their position at the top of the AFC North. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of Sunday's game against the Jets to see how the team performs without some of their key players.
