It wasn't until the BBMAs in December, where they collected their third consecutive Artist of the Year trophy, that the cracks in the façade began to show.
Emotional speeches from J-Hope and Jin revealed the emotional strain they'd faced throughout the year, admitting feelings of burnout and even contemplating disbandment. The shocking reveal sent shockwaves through the ARMY community.
In their memoir Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS, the band opened up about their struggle, confessing feelings of immense pressure, mental exhaustion, and moments when they all wanted to walk away. Despite this, their unwavering bond and the support of their fans kept them going.
This whirlwind of success had been relentless. From February to September in 2017, BTS toured 10 countries, crammed with interviews, music award shows, and talk show appearances. The cycles of creating, promoting, and traveling left them drained, with scarce moments of rest.
For RM, the role of interpreter in international appearances added even more pressure. Yet, he admits he was on the brink of a breakdown. Even with the pressure of producing albums, planning global tours, and preparing for countless performances, they persevered.
While they faced emotional battles, they pressed on. They renewed their contract for another seven years, signaling their journey was far from over. As they stood before ARMY at the iconic Wembley concert in 2019, where fans sang along to Young Forever, the group appreciated the support that had helped them through their tough times.
