K-Pop Sensations RM and V Conclude Military Service, Paving the Way for BTS Comeback

BTS members await reunion as two more members conclude their mandatory military service obligations this year.

Hey there! Let's chat about the latest news surrounding the K-pop powerhouse, BTS. RM and V, two of the seven members, have recently completed their mandatory military service in South Korea, marking an exciting milestone for the group and their fans worldwide.

The dynamic duo, each accompanied by cheers from around 200 enthusiastic fans, including some who traveled from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil, left the military base in Chuncheon City, ready to rejoin their bandmates. Seventeen hours seemed trivial for Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla, for she spent that long on a plane from Mexico City, stating, "The flight wasn't long because we were just so excited to witness these boys get released, to be here in South Korea, in our idols' homeland."

BTS initially started their military service in December 2023, with RM and V joining three other members who were already well into their conscription. Jin, the eldest member of the band, was the first to fulfill his duty in June 2024, followed by J-Hope's discharge in October. The band's other members, Jimin and Jung Kook, are due to be discharged this week, with Suga, who is fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, set to be released later this month.

The BTS members' military service has kept the group on hiatus since June 2022, but with the completion of service for RM and V, fans eagerly look forward to the group's possible reunion, which is rumored to take place in 2025.

It's important to note that all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 in South Korea are required by law to serve between 18 to 21 months in the military. This conscription system is designed to discourage potential aggression from North Korea. However, exceptions are rare, with athletes and select performers attaining top prizes in international competitions receiving exemptions. K-pop stars, unfortunately, are not considered under this privilege.

Despite heated debates over granting special exemptions for the BTS members, the group's management agency announced in 2022 that all seven members would fulfill their duties.
