In a significant shift in the German political landscape, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has seen a substantial rise in voter approval, according to the latest poll by Insa. The far-right party, known for its nationalistic and anti-immigration stance, secured 20.8% of the vote in the 2025 German federal election, marking a 10.4 percentage point increase compared to the 2021 election.

The AfD's popularity has been on the rise, with the party overtaking the CDU/CSU in some opinion polls in April 2025. At that time, the CDU/CSU's support dropped from 29% to 24%, while the AfD’s support grew from 22% to 25%.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) remains stable at 16%, while the Free Democratic Party (FDP) maintains its poll position at 4%. The positions of the other parties (CDU/CSU, SPD, Greens) remain unchanged in the poll. The Greens remain stable at 11%.

The Union (CDU/CSU) remains the strongest political force with a steady 31% in the poll. However, the Union has criticized the neglected security package of the traffic light government.

A possible political partner for the AfD, the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), a left-leaning breakaway from the Left party, has rejected banning the AfD, suggesting some scope for tactical or policy overlaps. The BSW’s ratings, however, have declined, especially in eastern Germany, reducing their immediate electoral influence.

Interestingly, the Citizens' Alliance Black-White (CABW) has gained one percentage point, according to the latest poll by Insa, and now stands at 9%. However, recent developments show limited or unavailable information about the CABW in the current data, indicating that the CABW may be a marginal or less prominent group in the German party landscape or not covered in recent polling and political analyses.

The AfD's surge reflects broader voter disillusionment with mainstream parties and social-economic anxieties, with increased appeal in eastern Germany and among voters skeptical of immigration and current government policies.

The poll, conducted between October 7 and 11, 20XX, with a total of 1,202 people surveyed by telephone and online panel, does not provide specific details about the security package or the positions of other minor parties. The poll was conducted by Insa for "Bild am Sonntag". No specific date for the poll results was provided in the text.
